"We live in a time when people are opposed to the teaching of doctrine. The underlying implication of this kind of thinking is that they do not believe that doctrine teaches us how to cope or is even necessary. They simply do not believe that sound doctrine matters.
For Paul, the very means by which fear, depression or other life issues are to be overcome is heart knowledge of sound doctrine. This is why Paul now brings us to a mountain peak of doctrine. Here is the foundation upon which we stand. This is the truth that under-girds our faith. This is the truth that takes us on the wings of glory and opens our eyes to the glory of God. This is the truth that takes our eyes off of the Antichrist and the evils of this world, and lets us gaze into the perfections of the Holy."
