"There are many in ministry caught up in every aspect of prophecy and really have made shipwreck of their ministry by their infatuation with things to come. Today I would bring your attention to the fact that Paul, when writing this second chapter, meant for the words we are now reading to ascend so much higher than his words related to the coming of the Antichrist.
It is not that Antichrist's coming is not important, it is, as you can tell by reading the previous verses. However, in verse 8, Paul simply dismisses the Antichrist and his minions as insignificant in comparison to the coming of Christ. Verse 8 reads, “And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:” There you have it. The Lord will destroy the Antichrist with a word.
Now, coming to what Paul is saying next, we find mountain peaks of doctrinal truth related to the believer. This is where Paul really wanted the Thessalonians to focus. You can see this back in I Thess. 4, where Paul deals with death, the trials of this life, and then he points out that the “Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout”. (I Thess. 4:16) The wage of sin felt in the life of every believer will one day cease. We will no longer be under persecution, and will no longer feel the tug of death grasping at the life within our bodies. This is truth for the believer that it is vital to understand. Paul is teaching doctrine."
